One Worker Dead, Other Injured when Working on a Sewage System Construction Job
J.L.H.M., 47, did not survive when a piece of ground collapsed and fell on him, while A. N., 24, was rescued alive and out of danger. For both of them it would be a common day that they would spend working on the construction of a sewage system in a city in North Colombia. Their task for yesterday was to do some excavations in 4th street. During the morning everything went normal as the sun cleared any attempt for rain so they trusted to finish the work quickly. But at noon their work came to an end. The mayor explained that apparently the drilling they were going to do was not so deep and they trusted each other. "They did not install the support that is the protection against avalanches," he said. From one moment to another, a piece of land fell off and the avalanche buried the two workers. Before an emergency crew arrived, the other workers reacted immediately and with the help of some machines they took out the two workers, nevertheless the one was already dead when he was rescued. The works began six months ago with a commitment to be delivered in March 2020, and have an approximate cost of $ 41,000 million, contributed mostly by the Ministry of Housing ($ 31,000 million); the rest is provided by the Government ($ 8,000 million) and the Mayor's Office ($ 2,000). |
