The real reason we should abolish the death penalty is that it is more expensive to execute a prisoner in America than it is to imprison them for life. This is mainly due to the lengthy appeals process that each death row inmate is entitled to under law

Money isn't more important than life. And the reason we should execute the worst of the worst so to speak is because they have proven themselves extremely dangerous people, and normal deterrents do not matter to them. And even placing them in prison won't stop them from taking another life. Whether it's a guard or other prisoner. So it's not worth the risk to lock them up for 10 20 or more years, because eventually opportunities will arise for them to act.
