Re: Old Woman Was Died Under the Truck Wheel

Late model U.S. trucks are designed with sloping noses which not only cuts down on the blind spot directly in front of the vehicle, but also greatly decreases the aerodynamic drag coefficient making the trucks much more fuel efficient.
The U.S. stopped building cab-over trucks a long time ago specifically for those reasons. Also any safe truck driver would never pull up closer to a crosswalk or a vehicle than his blind spot allows him to see.
I possess a U.S. Commercial Drivers License, have driven trucks for 30 years and am the Lead Driver and Safety Director for a large petroleum transportation company in Tampa, FL so I can assure you I know what I am talking about.
Firstly as you state the US has changed "engine in front of the cab trucks" by putting a sloping bonnet to "improve" visibility this shows there is/was a problem with the design and does not make them safer than cab over engine models, which have a far greater visibilty level.

Not all truck drivers drive in countries where cross overs/ walkways/crossings are given the same level of legal status as they are in the US.

I too hold a Commercial Heavy Goods Licence and have for over 20 years. I have driven HGV's and light vehicles in countries as varied as (but not limited to) almost all Europen roads, Khazakstan, The former Yugoslavia, Kuwait and Iraq etc.

I have driven engine in front of cab and slab fronted cab over engine types and I can safely say that in my experience in countries that have poor driver and pedestrian discipline I would choose a cab over engine "slab front" any day.

To put a point of safety across we where taught when driving engine in front trucks to pump the brakes two or three times whilst checking for errant pedestrians (allowing the air brakes to hiss in way of warning, added to the air assisted clutch, if fitted)whereas in the slab front you could lean forward and check (something that was not going to safe the coffin wearer in the video).

I'm not after an arse kicking contest I am just saying as a person has driven military and civilian trucks throughout the developed and "under" developed world that there is a major difference in how people act in and around roads, crossings and vehicles.
Also in many Eastern Block areas the maximum weight a truck can legally carry is often seen as a joke and they go by the maximum the truck can actually pull which can be 3, 4 or more times you or I would carry.

I have been hazmat qualified for longer than I have driven HGV's up to and including Nuclear and petroleum materials so I understand you have to be very safety aware in your job and work position

Re: Old Woman Was Died Under the Truck Wheel

now now. Did I call you any names Sir? Surely as you have just proven, politeness doesn't go with age, common sense on the road doesn't go along with the lenght of drivers license one has, the KIND of drivers license one has, and the amount of miles one has driven
Welcome to the fully developed personality of the long-term truck driver, who has had to observe humans at their worst on a daily basis, behind the wheel of their car. A place where courtesy, patience, and common sense ends and selfishness, anger, and supidity rules.

Re: Old Woman Was Died Under the Truck Wheel

Well should I laugh at this pathetic display or show some compassion for her family? Dunno. I still can't grasp how this happens. I mean...I am a human being, and that woman is ALSO a human being. I am aware that people get run over by trucks ALL THE TIME. I assume that everyone is aware of this fact. So, from this day forward, everyone is going to take responsibility for their own lives and no longer walk in front of vehicles without looking....right? Probably not. The only thing dumber than this is getting hit by a train. Seriously, imagine the absolute wreckless behaviour this old bag demonstrated on a daily basis up to this point. If you are so willing to put your own life at risk, imagine how thoughtless she was with regard to putting other people's lives at risk. She probably drove a vehicle at one time in her life. We are all fortunate that she didn't kill someone else during her brief time in existence.
You are so fucking right!

Re: Old Woman Was Died Under the Truck Wheel

I think she was dead right away when her head slammed on the pavement with such force. No movement from that point onwards.
She was´t dead, she was died, can´t you read?

Re: Old Woman Was Died Under the Truck Wheel

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's 100% the stupid old lady's fault. Why? She came from behind the pedestrian crossing, was not standing beside it at the time, and on the blind side of the vehicle where the driver could not possibly see her. She literally ran in order to achieve that.

Old people think they have the right of way because they are old. They forget they still need to look left and right. That they might not be seen because they are shorter than the windshield they are passing under. That their skulls are thin and fragile thanks to osteoporosis. And that you can't trust a fucking Russian driver.
