Police officers are trained to have inflexible, violent egos where the only solution to any problem is to double down until submission or death is reached. It's hilarious to see what happens when two of those egos cross one another. Cop-on-cop disputes turn deadly very often.

When it comes to enforcing the law going up the use of force continuum to the minimum level of force required to decisively bring the situation under the control of rule of law has virtually nothing to do with egos and is in no way limited to American police. Practically speaking there isn’t any other way to actually enforce the rule of law (the only alternative is so simply choose not to, which is how you get all these places that are, quite frankly, worse…)

If police from the relatively homogeneous and orderly east asian countries were somehow teleported to and expected to do their jobs in the diverse ‘melting pot’ America has been transformed into over the past 50 years they’d either be dead, hiding under a table, or have killed somebody in short order. America’s police do not have an easy job.
