Off Duty Philippine Cop Shoot & Kills 2 Men in Front of Bar
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A Valley cop is facing possible administrative and criminal cases after a shooting spree Thursday night that left two dead and one injured. Suspect Police Officer 2 Frenzel Mendoza, 29, assigned in the Valley shot and killed Midtown Bar co-owner, Cesar Palitog Degay and security personnel Sonny Caswang Awingan, Thursday night. Police chief Byron Allatog said criminal and administrative charges are being prepared against Mendoza. The shooting incident happened in front of Midtown Bar and Mhel Mhiel Marketing when Degay went outside to pacify a group of minors in an alleged brawl. Police investigation said Mendoza together with three others were inside the bar drinking around 10:20 p.m. The police officer then went out and proceeded to the ground floor in front of Mhel Mhiel marketing where he had an altercation with a group of customers. As Degay tried to pacify the brawl, Mendoza drew his firearm and shot the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head and stomach. Seconds after the gunshots were heard, Awingan went down to assist but Mendoza then pointed his gun at him and shot the victim thrice. A bystander, Reymar Cosendo Copis, bagger of Mel Mhiel Marketing sustained laceration to his left hand during the incident. Degay was declared dead on arrival by doctors of the Benguet General Hospital while Awingan died near midnight while at the operating room of the same hospitals, as doctors tried to save his life. Police reports said Mendoza tried to escape after the shooting spree but was chased and apprehended by P03 Dennis Avillonosa and was brought to the La Trinidad Municipal Station. Crime scene investigators collected six spent shells and a lone fired bullet of an alleged 9-millimeter caliber pistol. Mendoza is now under the custody of La Trinidad police as cases are being prepared against him. Allatog said the incident stemmed from an misunderstanding. The police officer watch Cesar suffer for a few seconds before shooting him in the head which lead to the sudden death of Mr. Degay. When he saw Sonny Awingan still moving on his way out, he gave him his last shot, kicked him on his head, gave these two dead man his last look, spit then left the scene like nothing happened. According to a few witnesses, the off-duty officer was not behind bars when he was taken into custody in La Trinidad police station. When asked why this officer was not behind bars, they were told by La Trinidad Mayor Edna Tabanda (who was at the police station at that time) and the officers in charge that they sent the off-duty officer to the second floor of the police station to lounge there until he is detoxicated. On a side note: Mayor Edna Tabanda was heard by a witness saying "gungunada a" (Iyan ang napala nila (tagalog) - that's what they get- English) after hearing the news. |

Re: Off Duty Philippine Cop Shoot & Kills 2 Men in Front of Bar
There is a VERY VERY VERY large number of cops that give cops a bad name. It's a flawed system that ensures corruption. Even the non-corrupt police have no choice but to follow suit or be estranged from your co-workers and lose all opportunities for promotions. It's fucked. A new system that prevents corruption needs to be assembled.
