The NYPD is looking for a suspect who fatally shot a man on a Brooklyn street this past Wednesday morning.

According to police, at 8:32 am a 33-year-old man was shot at the intersection of Mother Gaston Boulevard and Belmont Avenue in Brownsville. The victim was shot several times in the torso.

The man was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. The suspect fled the scene in a black Infinity.

The investigation is ongoing.

Who was Rosetta Gaston?
Rosetta Gaston was a pioneer, advocate and continues to be an inspiration. Born in 1885, Rosetta Gaston was a community activist who was devoted to educating youth and fighting for civil rights. Throughout her life, she lived and worked within Brownsville and the surrounding neighborhoods, spreading joy and wisdom, thus earning the moniker of "Mother Gaston." In March of 1981, the Brownsville Heritage House opened, just one month after the passing of Mother Gaston. A dreamed realized after 50 years, the Brownsville Heritage House, serves as a historical cultural center, located on the third floor of the Stone Avenue Library. The Stone Avenue Library, the first children's library in the country, can be found on the corner of Dumont Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard which was named in her honor, in 1981. Mother Rosetta Gaston passed at the age of 96 but her lessons, care, wisdom, and legacy will continue to live on.
