Re: NY Man Dies After Chain Around Neck Pulls Him Into MRI Machine (Poor Quality)
Fuck. This has "trial lawyers" written all over it. All because a dumbass being a dumbass. Reminds me of that dumbass who got burned from hot coffee from McDonalds and became a millionaire as a result. |

This might be a hot take, but if you're walking around with a 20 pound chain around your neck, I am not upset that you're dead.

Re: NY Man Dies After Chain Around Neck Pulls Him Into MRI Machine (Poor Quality)
MRI technicians are trained not to turn off MRI machines under normal operating circumstances due to several critical reasons: Superconducting Magnets: Most MRI machines use powerful superconducting magnets cooled to extremely low temperatures (-269°C) by liquid helium. Turning the magnet off (a process known as "quenching") causes the magnet to lose its superconductivity and heat up rapidly. Safety Risks during a Quench: A quench causes the liquid helium to boil off and escape, which is dangerous. If the quench ventilation system fails or is obstructed, the rapidly expanding helium gas can deplete oxygen in the room and lead to asphyxiation. The sudden drop in temperature can also cause frostbite or rupture eardrums in patients and staff in the room. Equipment Damage and Cost: A quench can damage the MRI machine's internal components, including the magnetic coils and electronics, rendering it unusable and incurring significant repair costs. Replacing the lost liquid helium and repairing the damage can result in weeks of downtime and potentially millions of dollars in expenses. Operational Stability: MRI machines are designed to operate with the magnet continuously on to maintain stability and produce clear and accurate images. Turning the machine off and on introduces instability, potentially affecting image quality and requiring lengthy stabilization periods. |

Re: NY Man Dies After Chain Around Neck Pulls Him Into MRI Machine (Poor Quality)
I read about this story before the video appeared on DR. Apparently, the guy had been forewarned and had had discussions about his metal chain with the staff. It was his third visit to the clinic when the accident happened. Also, there should have been signs posted everywhere that were warning against metal objects. However, I don't know how that guy got back there to help his wife without being pre-cautioned (again); or even why he would be allowed back there. |
