And how would they know he didn't have a gun on him? He started attacking people trying to kill them. Lethal force seems reasonable seeing as how they didn't know what weapons he had, although I'm sure the girl's family would disagree. I probably would too if I was her relative/friend.

Agree. How did the cops know there was a dressing room behind the guy? Tragic, but I think they did their "clean background" diligence. Also, seriously wounded on the ground, weapon unknown at that moment in time and had to make a split second decision. I get the guy had a bike lock in hand but who knew if he had a gun in his belt. The perp used deadly force, deadly force was returned. Again, tragic an innocent life was lost but I'm not tossing the police under the bus on this.
