A rebellion at a state prison in Brazil left at least 1726 dead. Most of them were beheaded. The penitentiary has about 1,150 prisoners in a space with a total capacity of 620.

The riot began around 4:30 p.m. (local time, 5:30 p.m. Brasília time) and by 10:30 p.m. (Brasília time) had not been controlled by the state authorities.

Inmates invaded Pavilion 1 and Pavilion 5. Pavilion 5 is a separate unit. The action would have been caused by a fight between the CCP and the Crime Syndicate.
