Kamal Padlowski Convicted of Murdering Melvin Montero Jimenez at Ruskin Dock

Fla. Following less than three hours of deliberation, a Hillsborough County jury has found Kamal Padlowski, 52, guilty of premeditated first-degree murder for the brutal 2024 Memorial Day weekend killing of Melvin Montero Jimenez, 47, at a Ruskin boat harbor.

The trial, which concluded on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, centered around damning surveillance footage that completely dismantled Padlowski’s claims of self-defense.

The incident unfolded on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Little Harbor Marinas off Bahia Beach Boulevard. Earlier that morning, Jimenez had been celebrating a newly landed contract to install security cameras at Walmart and his stepson finishing second grade.

After spending the afternoon at the beach with his family, Jimenez walked to the nearby Sunset Grill and Beach Bar, where he met Padlowski, an immigrant from russia.

The two men struck up a conversation over drinks and Padlowski invited Jimenez back to his boat to continue drinking alongside Padlowski's fiancée.

According to court testimony, the mood grew strange after about 40 minutes of heavy drinking. A medical examiner later revealed that Jimenez was highly intoxicated, with a blood-alcohol level of 0.26, being more than triple the legal driving limit in Florida.

During the trial, Padlowski took the witness stand to defend his actions. He testified that Jimenez became aggressive, refused to leave, and threatened to kill him and rape his fiancée. Padlowski claimed that he acted out of fear and only wanted to create distance between himself and the victim.

However, Assistant State Attorneys Lindsey Hodges and Rebekah Kaufman presented silent surveillance video that told a drastically different story.

The footage showed Jimenez peaceably exiting the boat and walking along the dock. As Jimenez paused to put his flip-flops back on, Padlowski blindsided him, punching him and grabbing him by the throat before shoving him violently.

Jimenez fell backward, striking his head on a fiberglass dock box and fracturing his vertebrae, which knocked him instantly unconscious.

Rather than calling emergency services or administering aid, Padlowski was seen on video grabbing the motionless Jimenez by his ankles and dragging him down the dock. Padlowski then hoisted Jimenez over the edge and threw him into the marina waters where he drowned.

Prosecutors emphasized Padlowski's chilling behavior following the attack. Instead of attempting a rescue, Padlowski threw Jimenez’s floating sandals into the water, watched his body sink, and walked away to retrieve two kitchen knives.

He then waited on a finger dock, where he made remarks to arriving witnesses about possibly having killed someone. When law enforcement initially arrived, Padlowski lied, claiming he had no idea where Jimenez had gone.

Jimenez’s common-law wife, Angela Sprenger, and his daughter, Kimberly, watched the horrific video for the first time during the trial.

Speaking after the verdict, Sprenger rejected the defense's character assassination of her husband, calling Padlowski a "narcissist and a murderer".

Though Padlowski was initially arrested on second-degree murder charges in 2024, prosecutors successfully pushed for a first-degree conviction after proving his subsequent actions showed premeditated intent to ensure Jimenez died.

Following the reading of the verdict, the presiding judge immediately revoked Padlowski's bond. Because he was convicted of first-degree murder in the state of Florida, Padlowski faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

His formal sentencing hearing has been scheduled for August 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM, where post-trial motions will be officially heard and final victim impact statements will be delivered.

I imagine Jimenez said something to the Russian that the Russian did not agree with. It’s probably just that simple. Both were drunk which pretty much explains everything

Padlowski testified that the mood grew strange and Jimenez became aggressive, acting "like it was his boat". He claimed Jimenez refused to leave, shoved his fiancée and lunged at him.

During the tension, Padlowski told his fiancée to fetch a BB gun they kept onboard. A witness on the docks later reported hearing a gunshot sound and seeing a woman in a red dress who appeared to have a gun.

Prosecutors argued that surveillance video showed Padlowski committing a battery while still onboard, claiming he punched Jimenez and grabbed him by the throat before Jimenez finally exited onto the dock.

Detectives later recovered the BB gun onboard the vessel, but the silent surveillance footage did not capture the shooting or the exact direction of the fire.

The fiancée was questioned extensively by Hillsborough County investigators on the night of the incident, but she was not required to testify in court by either the prosecution or the defense.

Under Florida law, the state cannot force a witness to testify if they invoke specific constitutional privileges, and prosecutors chose to rely entirely on the silent marina surveillance video and bystander testimonies to secure Kamal Padlowski's first-degree murder conviction.

She told Hillsborough County deputies that Melvin Jimenez had made lewd and inappropriate comments toward her while drinking onboard the boat.

She told police this vulgar behavior provoked the initial shoving match between Padlowski and Jimenez. However, because her account of what happened outside on the dock did not line up with the physical evidence or the surveillance video showing Padlowski dragging Jimenez into the water, prosecutors avoided putting her on the stand.

Associate Medical Examiner Ashley Perkins proved Melvin Jimenez was alive when he entered the water by establishing his official cause of death as a combination of blunt impact trauma and drowning.

Perkins testified that while Jimenez was knocked unconscious by the fall, the impact itself was not fatal. Because he was still breathing, his body inhaled water after being dragged into the harbor, which conclusively proved he survived the initial dock collision.

This directly contradicted the defense's medical expert, who argued that vertebral fractures from the fall would have killed Jimenez regardless of the water.

Having his vertebrae broken like that could have very well turned him into a quadriplegic. He would have required almost immediate medical attention to help him breathe so it’s very likely that it would have killed him, however, Russian boy sealed his own fate by tossing him in the drink. Life in prison over a few drinks..

If they had been sharing bong rips instead of booze, they would still be friends.

Man! Drunk or not, that Russki was cold. Just throws him off the dock like a dead fish. Slams his flip flops in the water and returns to his boat like nothing happened. He posted bond too. Bet that video took the wind out of his sails.
Sure glad i don’t drink.

Re: Kamal Padlowski Convicted of Murdering Melvin Montero Jimenez at Ruskin Dock

So Padlowski got engaged with his now fiancée one day prior to this and he decided to go to the beach bar to celebrate this and left his new fiancée behind in his boat. Jiminez spent the day with his family at the beach and decided to go drinking vodka in the sunset grill bar to celebrate a contract for those cams leaving his family on the beach.

Jiminez left his phone in his car and asked a friend at the bar to tell his wife Angela that he was going to Padlowski's boat to have a look at the boat and to have, more, drinks.

Padlowski took him to his boat to show it to him and to celebrate his engagement by drinking more at the boat.

Must be the alcohol male bonding but going to the bar for a drink or two is something else than drinking plenty of wodka at the bar, leaving your family on the beach without direct telling them you're going to some boat with some russian guy, that was not a long time immigrant, to look at a stupid boat and drink even more on the boat with this unknown guy and his fiancee to celebrate his engagement there hoping the friend at the bar would tell his wife about his whereabouts.
