A 50-year-old Navi Mumbai based builder, Sunil Kumar Loharia, owner of SK Brothers, was stabbed, shot 5 times in front of his office in Vashi.

The CCTV footage shows 2 men dressed as security guards approaching him and one shooting him five times.
Then they started pouncing on Kumar using a coconut and stabbing him with a knife.

The assailants, according to the report, also left the garland on the victim and tried to flee on a motorcycle. It was then that the mob, alerted by gun shots, arrived at the spot.

The pillion rider was dragged away from the motorcycle by the mob and was beaten up before being handed over to the police.

Doctors at the hospital where Loharia was rushed to declared him dead during treatment.

While one assailant, 35-year-old Venkatesh Shettiar, has been arrested, an ex police officer, Samuel Amolik has also been held for possible connection with the murderers.

A report says, “ The ex-police officer, Samuel Amolik, had been dismissed from service for his alleged links with the underworld.

He has been charged with murder and conspiracy and remanded to police custody till February 22.”

Reportedly, several calls from Amolik’s phone have been traced to the same people to murdered Loharia.

Police sources said that they have began a probe into the murder and will question the accused who sustained grievous injuries himself after being beaten up.

They added that they will be looking into the professional rivalry angle as they found that Loharia used to file RTIs who get information on land acquired by other builders. He allegedly extorted money from them that way.

Police said, Sunil Kumar's cellphone call data revealed that he had received a number of threatening calls from the assailants minutes before his murder.
