Motorist High on Drugs, Wearing Ankle Monitor, Mows Down Man on Crosswalk
A fatal accident occurred on Sunday morning, around 5:16 a.m., in Jette, near Place Werrie, Belgium. A pedestrian, walking on the zebra crossing, was fatally knocked down by a car with two occupants on board. The pedestrian died on the spot. The passenger of the vehicle was also injured in the accident. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape on foot. The suspect was subsequently identified and was arrested on Sunday. He is a man in his 30's. The public prosecutor's office was informed of the facts and requested the intervention of the laboratory of the federal police and an automobile expert who went down to the scene. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances in which the accident occurred. A video already sheds some light on the facts: we can see the car, a Volkswagen, arriving at very high speed from Avenue Charles Woeste and completely ignoring the pedestrian crossing taken by a 52-year-old man. The vehicle then makes a very violent crash straight through the roundabout. The driver of the vehicle was made available to the Brussels public prosecutor's office on Monday morning. The prosecution requested his arrest warrant. According to the first information, the driver was tested positive for narcotics (on the other hand, he was tested negative for alcohol). In addition, he was under electronic surveillance at the time of the accident, the Brussels public prosecutor's office said on Monday. |
