Re: Motorcyclist Collided with a Toyota
Why do all these people speak with that high-pitched nasally voice? I hardly ever hear a James Earl Jones -type voice in any of these videos. |

Re: Motorcyclist Collided with a Toyota
I'm not an expert on linguistics but i do know a little bit about sound-speech production. Phonemes are the distinct units of sound that differentiate words from another. So think of the shortest sound you can make in a word and thats a phoneme. Sounds can be produced from various parts of the throat and mouth (ex. nasal, throat, tongue, etc.). There are 200+ phonemes that people can make and at birth we can distinguish between all of them. Every language is comprised of some set amount of these phonemes. As we learn a language, phonemes that aren't used become harder for us to produce or tell apart when we hear them. That is where accents come from. |
