Re: Motorcycle Racer Dies

Lets not forget Jason Dupasquier, who lost his life at the Italian GP earlier this year in much the same circumstance. Think there was a thread on it here somewhere.

What organization did you race in? I raced in the CMRA back in the early 90s for a few years. Had a highside and a few lowsides, and luckily slid off the track into the runoff (grass) lol.
OMRRA in the seventies, MRA in the eighties, and then did the "smart" thing when track days became a thing, bought a cast off race bike and did those exclusively. Racing, as I'm sure you know, is a huge drain on time, energy, and money. I put a set of DOT race Bridgestones on my track bike, used pump gas, and went an entire two seasons just riding. I'd go out in the intermediate group and pass everyone, then go out in the expert group and have my ass handed to me.
Oh, I also raced in a local YSR-based series in Colorado. Now THAT was fun.

What are riders told to do in a situation like this? It looked like he would have been better staying laid down low behind the bike until the other riders passed. He stood up and got obliterated. There are such a tight cluster of bikers the oncoming biker probably couldn't do much and his view was screened in front.

Re: Motorcycle Racer Dies

Your adrenaline and survival instinct take over. I was never put into that situation so I can only speculate. Even during riders meetings his exact situation is very rarely addressed, and usually as a "what if"? Getting off the racing line (basically out of the line of fire, if you will) is important, but that is only if you crash and somehow still on the track surface. He was just doing what he thought would ensure his survival. Most of the time your momentum will take you off the racing surface - assuming you crash entering/mid/exiting a corner.

No excuse for this in today's world. They have the ability to have officials calling caution to all riders through radios or Bluetooth or tethers in their helmets.

Re: Motorcycle Racer Dies

I participated in a drag race last Friday. Do you know how hard it is to run in heels?

Re: Motorcycle Racer Dies

They had a split second you dumb fuck.
You don't watch videos "dumbfuck"?

4 seconds from the time his bike goes down to the impact. 4 seconds is 1 2 3 4 seconds longer than a split second.

If the bike was going 60mph. That means when that bike hit the ground. The bike that impacted him was 300 yards away. A football fields length away.

My motorcycle has a tip over sensor. Which immediately cuts power when the bike leans past a certain point, a point that the bike is no longer controllable.

This same technology can easily be used to signal caution during a race. They have sensors on these bikes already that detect exactly where on the track they are. Computers can analyze information faster than a split second you dumb fuck.

A bike goes down, signal sent to computer that recognizes where the bike and even the rider is. If either are in a predetermined danger zone lights could flash on driver visors. Or the riders hear the warning or both. And this can happen instantaneously with the bike setting off the sensor.

It wouldn't even necessarily have to bring out the caution. But just an alert to a bike is down. Which again the rider would get a split second before the bike actually hits the ground. Light flashes in the visor, riders immediately look further ahead for obstacles.

This happened because the rider had no idea a bike was even down.

Look at the pictures and the times. In one picture it's at 1:24 this is when a tip sensor can trigger. The bike low sides as his boot or his peg have lifted the tires because it's leaned over too much.

The next picture is 1:19. The moment of impact. That's 5 seconds but I'll call it 4. Plenty of time.
