Re: Miner Falling To His Death

What is this,a suicide or an attempt at a stunt? What the hell was he doing dangling from the bottom instead of riding on the platform?

In this remote mining area there are no roads connecting the steep hillsides. Workers build a makeshift cableway powered by a motorized winch or crane and stand or sit on a little platform or basket. These systems are primarily designed to move heavy tools and rocks but miners frequently ride them due to the lack of infrastructure.

It suffered a short malfunction making it jerk, tilt or partially slip and the worker standing on it fell but could get a hold to it dangling underneath but he got exhaused and had to let go.

No worries: once you start in (or up) on something like this, you'll be able to hold on for the rest of your life.

Re: Miner Falling To His Death

He was an adult miner.

Poor dude working for a few dollars a day. Does the Mexican government or his employer provide any type of financial aid to his family after something like this happens?
