Militia Leader Shot Dead at Rio de Janeiro Kiosk
A man was executed in a kiosk at Praia do Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, on Sunday night (21). The man was identified as militia leader S.R.d.C.S., or "S.B.". He was with his girlfriend at the kiosk when, around 8.50pm, a gunman arrived and murdered him. His girlfriend escaped injury. A militia member in the neighborhood of Sepetiba for over a decade, S. was arrested during a crackdown on militias in 2017. The militia he commanded charged taxes from residents and traders, seized land, and cloned stolen vehicles. According to witnesses, on the 20th, S. had managed to escape an attack. The main suspect for S.'s murder is R.P.G.E., who reportedly is trying to take over command of a rival militia formerly headed by Z., who handed himself to the police in December. S. was formerly a member of Z.'s militia, before he left to form his own. |
