Police were sure they were waiting for him and they knew what he was carrying.
The 2 dudes on 1 bike didn't go very far though:
they were both killed today in the morning in a shootout with the Police: "They reacted to the arrest so they were shot and later died", a police spokesperson said

My hypothesis: People who gave that money in the first place, sent this two to get it back. Police was paid to kill them before they talked.
