Re: Miami, Suicidal Man on Fire Sitting Under a Tree
I totally agree Doc, we shouldn`t cast judgment, but many people`s first reaction would have been to run over there and not just watch. Just sayin. |

Roger that... From how terrified she sounded, she would have froze and did nothing. Some people have the natural initiative to try to help, many other would freeze at the moment of truth... Ive seen EMT's freeze at the sight of real trauma. Some people are wired to react or run. |

Agreed. Nothing worse than watching imbeciles fanning the flames rather than smothering them. Although when the girl said "this is scary, let's get outta here"... that's not the best way to handle the situation. At the same time, I guess we have trained people to deal with these situations for the very reason that many people can't mentally handle this sort of thing.

Re: Miami, Suicidal Man on Fire Sitting Under a Tree
Roger that... You are right about that... Working in Emergency Medicine for 20yrs on active duty, I have become a "Trauma Junkie". Ive seen some of my peers freeze when we arrive at the scene. Some people find it hard to grasp the harsh realities of people that are in critical situations. One of the best ways to cope with these type of stressors is "humor". Sometimes a joke is enough to break that tension. Humor allows everyone to work cohesively, and operate as best as possible, outside of the comfort zone. Of course the humor must be in good taste and not give bystanders the impression of unprofessionalism.. |

Re: Miami, Suicidal Man on Fire Sitting Under a Tree
he must have an extremely strong mind to be able to just sit like that and be on fire. thats some next level monk shit. to people bitching about why they didn't do anything: why should they? its obvious he wanted it, let the guy do what he wants. if he was running around screaming it would be a different story, but he obviously had that planned out and was sitting on his own. |
