I highly doubt he just burst into flames spontaneously....if he wants to light himself on fire, why the hell should Joe Citizen be obligated to put himself at bodily risk to undo the damage that the person ELECTED to incur...?

Someone needs to step up and do a Rube Goldberg machine that kills them, burns their remains, and dumps them in an urn ready for the family. I would applaud that.

Re: Miami, Suicidal Man on Fire Sitting Under a Tree

It is completely understood to render help to someone in need. Many people that have commented already, have negatively biased opinions about the people who are filming and not rendering help. The people that are filming this probably don't have fire extinguishers or blankets to cover the flames.

The other complaint would be that if these people tried to help out, they probably would try to fan the flames out, at best, with a jacket or something. Then the criticism of them making the situation worse would arise.

It is probably safe to say that the people that filmed this didn't have the gear to handle this burning man situation.. Lighten up, its not with the highest probability that people run into situations like this very often. Not everyone is going to have the right gear and the skillset to help.
You're right now that I have thought about it. I am pretty sure I would have still tried to help the poor fucker. The girl did mention that the situation was freaking her out so it probably was a good thing she didn't try to help the guy.

What are they expected to do? Piss on him to put him out? Then they would be sued if the guy happened to survive!

Well said, and may I add this: how often do we come across something like this in everyday life. To me, it would be the "fight or flight" response = do something or freeze. Most of us don't really know how we would react in these situations.
