My friend, never underestimate the depravity of the human race. Additionally, many of these gang members are forceably recruited "you're in or you're dead". They have to do stuff like this to climb the ranks or have to do it or it's done to them. Nothing inspires loyalty like knowing your own life hangs in the balance, every day.
