Memphis Police Shoot and Kill a Couple in a Hijacked Car After Chase
Six West Memphis police officers who shot and killed two people earlier this year are not being charged. In a Friday morning news conference, West Memphis Police Department leadership answered questions about the encounter and released dramatic dash cam video of the incident. Officers shot and killed 22-year-old woman M. R. and 30-year-old D.’A. B., both of Lancaster, South Carolina, during an attempted traffic stop Jan. 16. Assistant Chief Robert Langston said officers attempted to pull the car over because it had no license plate and had high beams. When the car didn’t stop a chase ensued. Langston said the car, with the woman behind the wheel, rammed police cruisers multiple times and ultimately ran over an officer’s legs. That’s when six WMPD officers opened fire, killing both. Police released dash camera video Friday, which shows the chase and the violent ending as the officer is hit and his fellow officers open fire. Police later found the suspects’ car was carjacked from a 72-year-old woman in South Carolina. Officers discovered a .22 rifle and crack cocaine inside the vehicle. They were also wanted on shoplifting charges. The officer who the woman hit suffered major injuries to both legs. He is not being identified. Five other officers were relieved of duty with pay while Arkansas State Police investigated the shooting. ASP reviewed the dash camera footage as part of their investigation, and grand jury decided the officers should not face charges. An internal investigation is still in place, but Langston said it should wrap up within a few days. |

That woman was an idiot. Sure cops can be too gun happy but imo this wasn't one of those times. Though it looked like the guy was alive at the end, he put his hands up, did he die in the hospital from wounds? |

Re: Memphis Police Shoot and Kill a Couple in a Hijacked Car After Chase
"The driver of the vehicle ultimately rammed several police cars and ran over a West Memphis police officer and shots were fired at the scene," the statement read. Medical examiners pronounced both shooting victims, a man and a woman, dead. The morning after, scraps of crime scene tape and discarded medical supplies littered the intersection of the shooting. One area resident, who would only be identified as Cindy, was in her house that stood a few hundred feet away from the intersection. She looked out of her window after hearing "five or six shots, like fireworks." Cindy described seeing chaos from her window, heard people screaming in pain and others calling for medical equipment like tourniquets. After a while, Cindy said, "I saw two stretchers carrying two people. One was yellow, and the person on it was alive. The other one was dark, and I knew the person on it, was dead." |

Re: Memphis Police Shoot and Kill a Couple in a Hijacked Car After Chase
I thought Mama Cass OD'ed, didn't know she got wacked for not having plates and failure to dim her high beams. Stupid people in a car vs. stupid people with 'roid rage, Glocks and cars. Glocks win. That fat Dunkin' Donuts denizen probably shouldn't have tried to open the car door while it was moving, he didn't expect Mama Cass would make a hard right. Good job getting run over, it gave his co-workers an excuse to light up those assholes and save society hundreds of thousands of dollars in incarceration and welfare expenses. I've got no sympathy for people who car jack old ladies... |
