Memorial Service for the Stiff 18-Year-Old Vietnamese Girl Who Died of Leukemia
An 18-year-old Vietnamese girl died in a fetal position due to leukemia (roughly translated as "blood cancer" according to Google Translate). Notice that during the memorial service, there are flies that swarmed around her on the first video. Then on the fourth video which is the most interesting part, the monk flexed her rigor mortis and transferred her body to a folding bed while the memorial service continued. At the end of memorial service on the fifth video, the monk flexed her rigor mortis once again. Note: All five videos are too long (11 minutes being the shortest and 23 minutes being the longest) and are in 720p. I might take up to about 400-500 MB if I will upload all these videos. |

That was a bizarre ritual. All the flexing of the girl's limbs and moving her head before draping the fancy gold covering over her I figured was to make her position and pose more presentable, more dignified. Okay, I get that. But what was going on when they subsequently uncovered her and started moving her limbs and head again? It almost made me think that the ritual was an attempt at resurrecting the girl and they were then checking to see if she would show any response to their efforts!

This is a necrophiliac's wet dream. I wonder how exactly she died? Did she just get tired and not feel like eating, curled up and went to sleep? I wonder if she got to say goodbye to her loved ones?

From perusing the comments it seems to be a religious ritual designed to coax the soul out of her body. The rigor mortis is seen as the body's last attempt to hold her soul inside, and opening up the covers and breaking the rigor allows the body to relax and for her soul to "escape", perhaps to reincarnate as another being in another time.

Different strokes for different folks but that ritual was awkward. She probably had no medical attention so had to suffer a horrible death. God bless her. EDIT: Forgot to mention, I had to skip most of the videos. Way to much video. |
