Correct me if i'm wrong but our bone and tissue is pretty elastic, obviously the blade will slice, but when it meets bone, I think the blade tends to bounce.
I think you need a pretty calculated, well executed strike for a machete to go all the way or stick.
May be wrong though!

Yea, that and the fact that those blades would be very poor quality, probably locally made, so they wouldn't be high quality steel, or tempered properly.
