I dont think he cut it off with the first stroke.. They edited it so it was under the assumption that his head was lopped off with one swing.. It was still attached after the first strike  |

All I can say is luckily for him it was much quicker than the usual beheadings with the dull blade. Poor guy at least it was quick.
