Re: Marriage Proposal Denied, Girl Commits Suicide at Metro Station
Over there, a woman comes with financial "benefits" Really sad that sort of things bind a marriage. I saw a documentary on girls born in other countries about a year ago...girls in India are looked at a lot like girls in China. There was a woman interviewed that had over the years killed 7 or 8 or her newborn babies simply because they were girls. A dowry to a possible husband is very important. A man with lots of daughters over there better be a rich man if he wants them married off I can understand the pressure these poor girls must feel. Life over there is much different in a lot of ways. |

True, to an extent. Reports of female infanticide arise mostly from the rural parts of India where the population is highly uneducated. Lack of education is primarily due to poor implementation of policies by various administrations post-independence. On the brighter side, the same country has some states that are at par or comparable with many of the developed countries of the world when it comes to development indices. Kerala, a southern state, is an example. |
