Imam in His Car Gets Executed by Machine Gun Fire

Investigators in Dagestan opened a criminal case about the execution of an imam in Khasavyurt. The killers used automatic weapons, firing on the SUV and hitting the victim a few dozen bullets.

The preacher gained popularity among Salafi communities in the city. However, on the official website of the Republican Department of the RF IC of the deceased is called modestly — «the inhabitant of the village Kokrak the Khasavyurt district of the Republic Suleyman Suleymanov, born in 1993, does not have an official and permanent place of work».

The shooting took place on 1 December 2015 around 16:00 hours. Uunidentified person fired multiple shots at the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 with Suleyman Suleymanov at the wheel.

The victim was shot through the rear window of a silver VAZ car. According to witnesses, the killer had accomplices.

Suleymanov died from the received gunshot wounds in the intensive care unit of the Central city hospital of Khasavyurt.

At the place of execution was discovered 47 cartridges of caliber 5.45 mm.

Together with the Imam in the car was his father, who was wounded and taken to hospital. However, later this information was denied by the Suleymanov family.

The victim was a Salafi Imam, he recently started to work. I am sure that the murder will remain unsolved said a resident of Khasavyurt in an interview.

And the victim’s relatives said that the Parliament was not in conflict with the government nor with the official clergy of the Republic. The Salafists suspected of having links with terrorists. Suleymanov is suspected of having links with terrorists.

Suleymanova's murder is the second one of a religious figure in Dagestan. The killings of imams in Dagestan happen regularly because of the conflict between Sufi and Salafi communities in the country.
