The stallion did not survive this incident, and based on the video, there was no chance of recovery. Upon impact, the stallion lost all form of muscle control. This in and of itself isn't so bad, but the spastic motions, and uncontrolled muscle contraction normally mean only one thing, traumatic brain injury. The odds are that the kick impacted almost perpendicular to the frontal bone, fracturing it, and possibly sending bone fragments into the brain, or the impact itself was sufficient to transfer enough force to damage the CNS indirectly. There are longer versions of this video out there, and in one, the camera is brought into the paddock and you can see that the left eye is fixed and unresponsive (the right eye was not visible). |
