Man and Woman Killed In Suspected Extortion Attack on Minibus
San Juan de Miraflores, Lima, Peru Two passengers were killed and a third person wounded when an armed assailant opened fire on a crowded public minibus. The attack occurred as the vehicle, operated by the San Pedro de Pamplona company, briefly stopped to pick up passengers. The gunman initially fled on foot, before escaping on a motorcycle. No arrests have been reported. Two passengers - a man and a woman - seated in the front of the vehicle died at the scene. A third victim, reported in various sources as the driver or another occupant, was seriously wounded and hospitalized in critical condition. The incident is believed to be linked to ongoing extortion demands against the San Pedro de Pamplona company, which has reportedly been targeted since late 2025 with weekly payments of between 15,000 and 20,000 soles ($4,400-$5,850). |
