A man, who was not identified, was killed after being struck by a car in the early hours of Sunday (18). The driver of the car fled the scene.

Guilherme Guimarães da Silva, 23, suspected of running over and killing young Wilker Pinto Neves , 25, was arrested this Wednesday (28) in the Petrópolis neighborhood, south of Manaus. At the police station, when questioned about the crime, he stated: “It was an accident. I didn’t see the boy.”

The incident occurred in the early hours of May 18, on Avenida Joaquim Nabuco, in downtown Manaus. At the time, the suspect fled the scene without providing assistance. Wilker died instantly.

The police reached Guilherme after receiving an anonymous tip that the vehicle involved in the accident was hidden in a house in the Petrópolis neighborhood. The witness reported that the car appeared at the scene with the front and windshield damaged, and that it was being driven by Guilherme, who arrived “apparently drunk.” According to the report, the suspect also stated that he had “run someone over.”

Cameras from the Intelligent Video Surveillance Fence, known as “Paredão”, recorded the vehicle traveling down a street in the Petrópolis neighborhood.

The images show two people running out of the car. The system also identified that, on the 17th, the vehicle was circulating without damage, which, according to the police, reinforces that it was used in the accident.

Wilker was born in Santo Antônio do Içá, a city 879 kilometers from Manaus, and was studying pharmacy. He used to share his academic routine on social media.

According to family reports, he was the father of a newborn baby and was in the process of resuming his studies after a brief break.

On the night of the accident, Wilker went out to buy an energy drink during a get-together with cousins ​​and friends, but did not return.

The police went to the indicated address, arrested Guilherme and seized the car.
