He didn't die instantly, he stayed tensed up for a few seconds before dying. Terrible thing for those kids to witness.

No he died instantly, without your brain, you're nothing. That was an involuntary muscle contractions, as blood left his body, they eased and finally gave way. Guy was dead before he even realized he was dead.
