That calmness is a pure adrenaline rush, with a fast crash. I’m a born & raised NY’er. The subways were my playgrounds as a teen. However, NOTHING prepared me for an older man (50’s?) pulling  out & leaning against a 19 year old me in a crowded subway car. I moved away, he followed. I ended up exiting a stop earlier than needed. I called my then boyfriend (now husband) from a pay phone(!) and told him what happened. I was upset but nothing major. I walked the few blocks to my job, clocked in, told my supervisor what happened and proceeded to lose my shit. That’s was one of the worst feeling I’ve ever had. I thought I was stronger than that but no, that broke me. I wouldn’t wish it in my worst enemy. |
