You can't dry up some plants and inhale the smoke, freedom is not an on/off switch you either have or not. You have sets of freedoms and illegalities, these set change over time depending on the problems our society have. At some time in history there were cars but no regulation on how to drive, there were 10 cars in an entire city, now you have to abide by hundreds of rules or you get arrested and fined.

Freedom is a nice concept, but you really gotta think about what it is and what you actually have before talking. As said by other, these shithole countries are actually more free. You can steal, rape, kill if you're in the right gang. The amount of crime you can get away with in those countries is high. More freedom in those aspect make these countries shithole you don't want to live in.
