After watching the video on my laptop, the weapon used may not be a machete. A metal pole maybe? Don't know..

It could easily have been a machete.

Once a bladed weapon hits a substantial enough bone, it won't penetrate like it will through flesh alone.

The handle grip protection looks like a Katana's one.

I had the same feeling so I rewatched it several times to try and pay attention to the detail. However, its a bit too potato-y to see if the grip had tsukamaki (the hallmak wrapping/pattern) or if it was just a generic sword.
