Isn't that sad. Asking to spend his last piece of time with someone, the random anyone nearby--a stranger--before dying. Given up on the world but still seeking that small piece of human contact, to share a meal time, even with only a stranger. And the kindness of placing the banana leaf over his head; protection from unwitting witnesses, dignity to the deceased. There is so much shit from this and other developing countries, yet so much humanity at the same time.
