Re: Man Kills Cab Driver Then Robs Him *BLOOD POURING!*
Yeesh...and here I am telling people that the only people who need to be allowed to carry concealed weapons are law enforcement personnel. What a creep...and thank goodness for the camera. No getting out of this one.

Re: Man Kills Cab Driver Then Robs Him *BLOOD POURING!*
He may have lost consciousness instantly, but the automatic functions of the body such as respiration and circulation can persist for some time even after such catastrophic head trauma. The determining factor is whether or not parts of the brain stem are left intact. In this guy's case, his heart kept pumping for a good little while following the shot to the head. The bulging of the eye and the blood pouring from his nose suggest upper cortical trauma, in which case he was indeed technically alive immediately after the perp pulled the trigger. In other words: he faded out quick, but his body didn't give up the ghost as quickly as he did. It's quite possible that he even felt the pain. |

Re: Man Kills Cab Driver Then Robs Him *BLOOD POURING!*
You're right. Chances are his brain stem wasn't damaged, which also contains centers that control respiration and heart rate. However his brain was definitely damaged, which would have caused him to be completely brain dead. The nerves would have registered the pain, the brain would be incapable of interpreting it. |
