I have to wonder if they were chasing him to try and stop him from jumping or if they were chasing him for some other reason? if his intent actually was suicide then the guys carrying him did no wrong. they were just helping him along to achieve his goal where he failed. but then again, if he was running from them without the intent of suicide, then he deserved to be carried off that way. when trying to escape people, wasting time going up so many steps when there is only one way back down isn't too bright.
