His face wasn't burned, he's just been laying there for a few days. When the skin and the blood putrefy, that's what makes the skin turn black. It's just rotten. Look at his clothes by his neck, they're not burned. When you see his arm you can see the "marbling" of the fermenting and rotting blood through his skin where it hasn't turned black yet. He's laying in green grass and the people are speaking Spanish so he's got to be in a hot tropical climate like Mexico or further south. A body rots quickly in hot humid conditions. Plus the animals and/or maggots have eaten off half his face, so he looks like he's been burned but it's just the way decomposition looks in that weather.
