He made his decision to attempt/commit suicide. His family did not have the option...they had to come home to find their son either unconscious or dead in a pool of his own blood. I am assuming you are not a parent because otherwise you would know how fucking horrific such a scenario would be and you'd understand why people were concerned about his parents.
He could have chosen a much less dramatic way to end his life yet he chose to cut his arm, walk around, track blood all over, and film himself while saying, "might as well go out with a bang" and mentioning his parents coming home to discover the mess. He was lucid and sane enough to realize the effect his action would have on his parents. I absolutely sympathize all people who are suffering where suicide seems the only option, but I only have so much sympathy for people who feel is okay to drag others down with their misery.
