Wasn’t his friend. The first hand narrative has been on YouTube for a few years.

Everybody saying it’s the truck drivers fault must realize the truck was already turning and the bike would have appeared out of nowhere after the curve. Also the perception of speed is not easy to determine when a vehicle coming at you fast, even harder with a bike.

Exceptional chronicle of a friend's tragic demise (?) and his dim buddy's only words for the occasion: "Mother... fuck! Hey, bro?"

Re: ~Man Films Friend On Bike Sliding Under Truck~

Allow me to repeat myself - ZERO front brake application, where seventy percent of a motorcycle's braking potential is located. Given the time to see the hazard, plot a course of action, and then actually carry out your plan takes time and space. At the narrow end of the time spectrum, this can be carried out in about two seconds. The rider had just about two full seconds to brake properly, or brake then swerve, or swerve then brake. NOTHING in the plan a course of action phase is lock up the rear wheel until it skids into a slide, then release the brake and highside into (under) the truck. The rider had likely never practiced an avoidance scenario such as the, and thus, was caught out with no survivable skills. Any decision he could have made given his limited skill set would have been wrong.
Is it possible to reliably break and tip the bike so when you slide into the truck the bike hits first, or is that just movie shit? I imagine at slower speeds you could manage easy enough, but could it be done at this speed?

With the 2 second window we see here, what would've been his best option?

Re: ~Man Films Friend On Bike Sliding Under Truck~

all you dumb cunts saying it was the trucker’s fault when these morons are going way faster than that road was likely rated for and legal need to get some personal responsibility and maybe a motorcycle and gopro to film your own demise in high def for us
Doesn't matter that they were speeding. They had right of way.

Similar thing happened when I was riding with my mom as a kid. We were coming to a curve in the road that had the option of going straight by crossing over the opposite lane. The car coming from the other way around the curve was speeding. My mother misjudged the speed and tried to cross over and go straight. We hit head on, and two people in the other car died. Their family sued our insurance and won based on the right of way.

Re: ~Man Films Friend On Bike Sliding Under Truck~

I'll never understand the need/desire for a motorcycle. that's some death wish type stuff. I can see their use in an emergency situation but other than an emergency why on earth do regular people need access to anything that can make them go that fast....hmmm perhaps Darwinism has something to do with their availability.

The absolute worst thing one can do is try to "lay the bike down." The rider has no control of the situation, and Sir Isaac Newton takes over - and he never rode a motorcycle. Sliding into the truck would have been worse than staying on the bike and trying to reduce the energy of the impact. Yeah, its just movie stuff.

To avoid a crash, the motorcyclist can either adjust speed or adjust position, just not simultaneously. One or the other in rapid succession, just not together. In this riders case, he could have straightened the bike up (position - he was in a slight lean), and then smoothly but aggressively applied both brakes, scrubbing off as much speed as he possibly could before impact. Reduce the force, reduce the impact, reduce the injuries.

Rider could have tried swerve around the back of the truck, but in this case, truck too big, swerve too abrupt, no escape path (truck was taking up the entire width of both lanes).

I could go on an on about pre-crash scenarios and projected outcomes, but in the interest of brevity, I will not. Ive been too windy already. I hope I've made sense.
