Could it be a combo effect of dilution of the electrolytes in his bloodstream from excess sudden liquid which can cause sometimes fatal arrythmias?

Most likely respiratory failure. Alcohol is a depressant I.e. the somatic nervous system that regulates unconscious bodily function like breathing , heart beat and peristalsis among other things becomes inundated by alcohol, which penetrates the blood brain barrier and disrupts nervous function so my money is on respiratory failure cause I don't see puke.
