When I was a kid, another kid in the neighborhood, just a few houses from mine, took a shotgun to himself while his parents were out of town. Maybe 9th grade. I thought then and think now he was delivering a 'fuck you' to his family, having them come home to that mess. I felt terrible for the parents and the kid's sister, they were really nice people.
When this went down, the lady that lived next to them called the families on the street with kids and told them to keep the kids in the house.
The police came, the kid was removed and the parents literally left the house with the clothes on their backs and never returned, not even to pick up their belongings. My mother, along with a few others in the neighborhood tried to track them down, to no avail. Never heard from them again.
The house sat vacant for almost 2 years before it was sold. There were some older kids who frequently dared each other to try to get into the house. Always scared the shit out of me I didn't even want to walk past it.
To your point, poor parents and sib.

Somethin' tells me that his parents neglected him. It took 3 days for them to check on him? The fact he could kill himself, knowing his parents would find him, sounds like he wanted to punish them for the neglect. The parents dun goofed, and the consequences will never be the same.

These people walk among us, I really wonder what their day to day lives consist of, how they slept that night, do they have work in the morning? Their co-workers completely unaware that they spent their night laughing at a father finding his dead son. One thing i've found out over the years through personal experience is you never really know somebody, you might think you have a knack for "having a good judge of character" but you don't. It's scary.
