Near the surface of the Earth, the rate of acceleration due to gravity is equal to 32 feet per second per second, or 9.8 meters per second . After one second, it will be traveling at 32 feet per second, and will have traveled 16 feet. After 2 seconds, it will be traveling at a speed of 64 feet per second, and will have fallen 48 feet. In the absence of air resistance, the object will continue to accelerate at this rate, speeding up until it hits the ground. Conclusion? No that was a fatal fall for sure.
