Oil/gas rigs are one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. When things are going right, it doesn't look that dangerous. But the machinery is in constant contact with forces of the earth that are absolutely massive. Sometimes the machinery isn't strong enough to deal with it.

A friends father worked on a 3 man crew on a drilling rig. One day one of the cables snapped cutting 2 men completely in half, my friends father was severely injured but survived. Got a $250M settlement.

Interesting how they react so nonchalantly after something goes wrong, like it happens all the time. Which it probably does. Fatalism seems to be part of the Russian psyche.
