Re: Look Close.
Very clearly a human being. The *ping* sound was bad, but the impact sounds in the documentary by the two French brothers (the one hosted by Robert DeNiro) was even worse. I saw the original airing of that special, and the camera shot from the FDNY command post in the North Tower lobby manages to pan over and catch the tail end of a body erupting upon impact. It was deafening: a huge boom, then what sounds like water splashing out onto the concrete surrounding a swimming pool following the world's biggest belly flop or cannonball. One of the firefighters said it was sickening to think that every time they heard that sound, it was a human life being snuffed out. And in the segment that made the final cut, it seemed difficult for them to acclimate to it. Every time a jumper hit the ground, the firefighters at the command post couldn't help but stop what they were doing and saying and look up in the direction of the impact. Yet another haunting memory that those who survived will have to live with for the rest of their days. It's easy to forget or with time re-interpret what has been seen; but sounds like that are, to sane and decent men, disturbing on a much deeper level. |

Re: Look Close.
It's human intestines. A couple of people clipped the corner of the Marriott hotel on the way down, and it spread them everywhere. Arms, legs, heads, intestines............I remember seeing a kidney that was still for the most part intact. A heart that was shredded, and eyeballs and teeth everywhere. I think eyeballs are particularly strong when it comes to certain kinds of trauma. I remember one popping out of a mans head, and hitting one of the plaza level windows, and leaving a slimey trail as it slid down. |
