Weird AF, I'm thinking he had some sort of catastrophic neurological event shortly after jumping in. He was able to contact the shore multiple times but never attempted to grab on...

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

Looks to me like he just didn't know how to swim. His initial push-off from the ledge carried him out, but he didn't have the skills to create any forward momentum on his own. All he did was splash the water around. He couldn't grab onto a ledge because he was too far away - it looked like a sheer vertical wall that he was hovering at. When he reached up to grab, his body sank further under water. Physics.

Then why did he distinctly put his feet up and kick himself away towards the end?

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

Hard to be sure with the giant boulder blocking the view. Looked like maybe he was initially grabbing at the wall with his hands and slipping back into the water. Towards the end, my guess is he was trying to get a foothold on the (underwater) ledge, but it was too steep so he kicked off to try to keep his head above water when his feet slipped off the face of the ledge.

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

He was making tons of beginner/untrained mistakes with his armstrokes, kick and breathing. He was no doubt in deep panic since he first tried to turn around.

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

I don't understand why you jump into water if you don't know how to swim especially if you're his age and old enough to know better. Maybe he once knew how but had forgotten or was out of shape or the water was cold? I was 15 years old before I learned to swim which is pretty old but at least I finally learned. One of the first and most basic things they teach you is how to "dog paddle". You won't travel far but you'll keep your head above water. And when you run out of energy you learn to turn over on your back, tilt your head back and move your arms and hand back and forth from side to side and kick your legs calmly to stay afloat and catch your breath. It takes almost no energy. You can do it for hours.
