At Least Four Dead After Prison Riot in Ecuador
Latacunga, Cotopaxi, Ecuador Four inmates died during a riot that took place on the afternoon of Thursday at the Cotopaxi No.1 Deprivation of Liberty Centre. The violence erupted just three days after the National Service for Comprehensive Care for Adult Persons Deprived of Liberty had reclassified the inmates based on their level of dangerousness. The alert originated in the minimum- and medium-security wings, where gunfire was reported. To bring the situation under control, eighty officers from tactical units of the Police and the Armed Forces were deployed to the facility. In cell 41 of the A1A (A6) unit, located in the minimum-security section, two inmates were killed by 9mm gunfire, while a third inmate died in the courtyard of the same unit. A fourth inmate was found dead in cell 40 of the minimum-security wing in the Libertadores section. The body showed signs of strangulation. Two pistols and some 9mm ammunition were found at the scene. None of the four victims has been identified. The riot occurred five days after a military intervention at the facility, during which 25 cell phones, six wireless routers, 81 packages of marijuana, 46 bags containing a substance suspected to be cocaine, 41 bags containing what is believed to be cocaine base paste, three bladed weapons, 11 homemade pipes, 236 cigarettes, 26 phone chargers, a $100 bill, and an electronic scale, among other items, were seized. |

Re: At Least Four Dead After Prison Riot in Ecuador
There were 8 dead in two prison riots ~60-70 miles from each other. I'm unclear on if/how they were connected.
