Learning Team Guide Posing for Photo on Monkey Rock Falls Down During Hike Trip
Brazil. Sunday morning, C.R.A. Arrabal, 44, died after falling from a cliff on the Pedra do Macaco trail, in Maricá, in the Metropolitan Region of the state. He worked with a team that led groups on trails, but he did not yet have a formal license as a guide. At the time of the accident, according to witnesses, he was only accompanying the group to familiarize himself with the route and learning to became a guide. He was part of a team that took visitors on trails in the region and participated in the activities as part of the support group. A video recorded by members of the group shows Caio at the top of the rock, about 150 meters high, preparing to descend after taking a photo. He appears descending backwards and, while trying to turn his body to complete the descent facing forward, he loses his balance and falls off the cliff. Witnesses reported that a person filming warned him about the necessary caution seconds before the fall. The rescue operation mobilized the Fire Department and support teams for approximately 4 hours, due to the difficulty of accessing the area, which has dense vegetation and rugged terrain. According to one of the rescuers, it was necessary to use climbing techniques and an aircraft to reach the location where the body was. When the teams arrived, He was already dead. Monkey Rock is one of the region's tourist attractions, offering panoramic views, but it also presents risks, especially at the top, where there is no signage and access is more technical. Experts emphasize that, even on short trails, experience and caution are essential, especially in areas of exposed rock and high altitude, such as where the accident occurred. |
