Lawyer Stabbed and Stoned to Death
Court functioning was disrupted for the fourth straight day on Thursday as lawyers boycotted work seeking the advocates protection Act and compensation to the kin of lawyer J. C. who was brutally murdered last Saturday. The lawyers took out a procession from their office near the collectorate near the police commissionerate. The procession and protests by lawyers have been a disruption for ordinary people as traffic jams and congestion have been the order of the day for the last four days. The lawyers’ associations on Thursday said they will continue their protests till the last rites of the lawyer is performed. J.C’s relatives refuse to perform the last rites to press for various demands including compensation and a government job for the kin, which the district administration said is under consideration at the appropriate level. Two men, A. and M. were arrested for stabbing the lawyer to death, police said on Sunday, adding that the victim was on his way home when the assailants struck. The attackers blocked the lawyer's way while he was on his way home and a scuffle broke out during which one of the attackers took out a knife and started stabbing him in the chest. As she slumpled on the road, one the attackers struck him on the head with a stone, killing him on the spot. |
