A 23-year-old law student and intern at the São Paulo Court of Justice, Lívia B., was shot to death shortly after leaving her father's gym. She was approached by the suspect and attempted to flee, but was shot in the head and died at the scene.

The suspect was identified as Lívia's ex-boyfriend, 25-year-old Carlos E.B.V., who had been Lívia's boyfriend for four years. He refused to accept the breakup, made threats (including sending Livia a video showing a weapon), and stalked her. Lívia held an emergency protective order against him and changed her routine.

After murdering Lívia, Carlos went to his apartment, where he attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself. When police arrived, they found Carlos had written "Lívia" in blood on the mirror. He was arrested and hospitalized under police guard.
