.50 cal from up high. Hire someone with halfway decent accuracy to use it (because it doesn't take a lot to hit a whale). If he kills the whale, cool. If he doesn't, it was worth a shot. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for just letting all the whales go back into the wild, but IF I was gonna put dangerous animals up for display with humans for entertainment, I'd at least do it the right way and have a backup plan. This just goes to show that Sea World cares more about the huge financial losses of killing one of their exhibits than they do about the life of one of their employees. I'm pretty damn sure the guy/girl signed a waiver before getting this job, so they have no liability for him/her.
